Alone and Lonely with or without Money?

Which is worst? Being alone and lonely with money, or being alone and lonely without money? If one has to choose between the two, most people would choose to be alone and lonely with money. How about you?

Alone & Lonely

Alone and lonely with or without money?

All of us have been down this road before. We sometimes feel alone, we sometimes feel lonely. We could be in school, walking in a mall, in company of friends or family, and still feel alone and lonely.

Sometimes we ask ourselves: Why do I feel alone even if I am with friends or family? Why do I feel lonely when there is so much to be happy about? What am I seeking? What do I want?

Can money buy convenience and comfort? Can money buy friendship and love? Can money show us the way?

Financially capable people would say they would give up finances (or a part of it) in exchange for happiness. On the other side of the fence, people less financially capable would say having more money would bring happiness.

On which side of the fence are you? Please leave your comments below.

I’m not sure. While having money does facilitate certain things, it can make it way too easy to continue to be alone and lonely, feeding yourself with lots of temporary cures – food, alcohol, entertainment, etc. But if you don’t have money, maybe it’ll push you to leave your empty house and go for walks or spend time at a library or stuff like that. And my guess is that leads to happiness better than money.

By the way, have you seen this video called How to be Alone?

      MutantSupermodel,

I watched the video and I thought it was very good. Thanks for sharing. I agree that a person who is ‘really’ alone should embrace being alone and then be happier.

In cases when a person is dealing with emotional crisis, especially with a spouse and family, feeling alone when in company of people, and feeling lonely when it should be the other way around, is a problem.

In this case, what is one to do then? With money, one can afford temporary solutions, yet the root cause exist.

“Loneliness is and always has been the central and inevitable experience of every man.”
    Thomas Wolfe Quotes…

If this is the case I choose to be lonely with money. Superficial as it may sound, somehow you could use this money to go to places that will somehow ease the feeling of LA SOLITUDINE. Yes, tangible things may be temporary, the point is it helped you somehow.

But I won’t go as far as renting companion or this so called “friends.” Intangibles like love, acceptance and respect, all of this cannot be bought by whatever currency you have. Because love and acceptance is freely given, respect is earned. Just my two cents worth, Sir Robert.

For me money just makes you happy for a period of time. Being with someone or surrounded by people that you enjoy spending your time with makes you elated, uplifted & happy!

There were times that I have extra money but I still feel unhappy. Maybe because of mood swings. But I’d rather have a life that I have someone and living a simple and happy life until my hair turns gray.

For me, the worst is alone and lonely without money. That sucks! Hehe.

Renting friendship or love is another topic, (talk about spiritual warfare… “We should not conform into this world.”) Having less is having more… Yeah, very true!!! As the Scripture says… “The more you give (even you have less), the more you’ll receive.”

My vision is very spiritual. Having nothing, we should never hold anything in reserve. Pour yourself out. Giving the best you have and always be poor. Never be diplomatic and careful with the treasures God gives you, and yet possessing all things, this is poverty triumphant.

I am materially poor as you know, but spiritually rich! Hmm… All I hope and pray for is that everyone learn the blessed secret of delighting God’s Will, and welcoming whatever He sends to us – material, spiritually, emotionally, physically and mentally, even sorrow or joy, good or ill.

We should be less inclined to say, “I wonder why God allowed this or that…” Let us begin to see that the compelling purpose of God lies behind everything in life and that God is divinely shaping us into oneness with that purpose. As I mentioned earlier, you and I are not alone. You are always with God. No one should say, “I am alone and lonely.” Think about this… Jesus loves you… Jesus loves us…

God bless you, my dear friend : ) … hugs

      Imelda Santos,

In more ways than one, people who experienced a personal tragedy, such as the loss of a loved one, may either turn to God, or blame God.

People who feel alone and lonely, I suppose feel the same way. What you said about how people shouldn’t feel that way, I couldn’t agree with you more.

Life is good. Life is beautiful. We should embrace life as it is, live it, and make the most of it.

I experienced both… being alone or lonely with money is easier. Ok, let’s admit it. We can’t buy everything, but we can use our money to make others happy and, at the same time, we feel the same. In short, “mas masaya ka kapag nakakapagpasaya ka, diba?” Iyan ay kung hindi ka selfish. Naku, hindi ka mag-iisa kapag may pera ka! Magpaka-totoo ka nga! Mag outreach ka. “Gamitin mo sa pakikipagkaibigan ang lahat ng kayamanan mo,” as the Bible said. The other one is worst. Alone and lonely without money. All your friends will leave you. That’s very true. It happened to me. Kapag hindi ka matibay, sure iyan, ‘grave’ ang bagsak mo! But in my case, I don’t regret, ‘coz I know it was a part of God’s plan. “Kinuha muna Niya ang lahat para naman mapansin ko Siya at magkaroon ako ng time sa Kanya.” Somebody up there will not allow us to reach the ground. Just hold on, have faith. Keep in mind you are not alone. Pray hard. Seek God – our Best Buddy Buddy! You don’t have to worry. There are lot of things to do to make you happy, either with money or no money. Happiness is a matter of choice. Life is what you make it. Choose to be happy, my dear.

      Imelda Santos,

Thanks for the comment. Just pondering…

While money is a means, less financially capable people who snap out of feeling alone and lonely seems to value life more, putting it above material things.

On the other hand, those with money seem to try to use material things to offset intangibles – emotional assurances. Even worse, some use money to buy company and attention. Simply, renting friendship or love.

Would it make sense to think that between the two, having less is having more?

In both cases, when one doesn’t snap out of this emotional issue, tragedy occurs.

      What do you think?
